We believe in tasting everything that is offered on our site. It does not matter the reputation of the winery, the vintage, how high a score a wine has received or where the wine is produced. Without actually tasting the wine, you can never, ever, pass judgment on a wine.
So when we decided that our first deal is going to be something special, a Chateau Palmer 2006, we still need to make sure that the taste of this wine pass muster. There are various Bordeaux that does not live up to their hype. So, we cracked open a bottle and drink it all up!
This was a yummy wine and definitely seductive. Deserves every praise, worth every bit of the HK$999 in which this was offered. However, at the usual price that is north of HK$2,500?? Well, let’s just say not many of us would have sprang for a bottle.
Our first wine panel was not all about the Palmer, but it was also about discovering strong, value wines that are absolutely delicious. To counter balance the powerful French act that we have already tried, we then set out to the New World, California specifically, for that next bottle. Taking it easy for our first tasting panel, we only tried 5 wines. This is when we also discovered the exceptional Cline Cellars Contra Coasta County Ancient Vines Mourvèdre 2009. Not only was this one so yum, this was also just WOW when it comes to price. One of the Palmer can buy you like a case of this Cline Mourvèdre. Sure, this wine lacked the depth of the Palmer, and is not as sexy or seductive, but not any less delicious to drink. It actually ended up as the wine that we keep on wanting to come back to at the end of the day.
